Newton Abbot: Rifle & Simulator Combo Shooting Package at Crackshot
Experience Overview
The Rifle and Simulator Combo pairs Crackshot’s most precision-focused activity — the 20-metre scoped air rifle range — with its most unique one: the Simway Hunt big-screen shooting simulator. It’s a 1-hour package that gives you two very different experiences back-to-back, and it’s the best choice if you want the accuracy challenge of real air rifle shooting combined with the immersive, screen-based scenarios that the simulator offers.
Crackshot is Devon’s premier indoor shooting range, housed in a converted unit at Heathfield Industrial Estate between Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot. Open since 2015, the venue combines three indoor ranges with a full air gun shop and has earned consistently excellent reviews for its professional setup, friendly staff, and value for money.
This package skips the rapid-fire pistol range and focuses on the rifle and simulator pairing instead. If you’d prefer the full experience with all three ranges, the 1.5-hour full combo is just £7 more. Alternatively, the rifle and pistol combo swaps the simulator for the BB pistol range at the same price.
The Two Activities
This combo pairs Crackshot’s precision shooting experience with its most immersive digital experience — two very different challenges in a single session.
| Activity | Equipment | Setup | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air Rifle Range | Scoped pellet air rifles | 20 metres · 5 lanes · Sitting & standing | Precision & accuracy at distance |
| Simway Hunt Simulator | Replica firearms · Big screen | 2-player · Multiple scenarios | Competitive fun & variety |
Air Rifle Range (20 metres)
The rifle range is a proper test of marksmanship. Five lanes with both sitting and standing shooting positions face a 20-metre range. Targets include traditional paper rings on a pulley system — winch them in to inspect your grouping, then send them back for another round — plus knockdown and spinning targets for variety. The scoped pellet rifles are accurate and satisfying, and with unlimited ammunition you can take your time perfecting your technique.
Simway Hunt Simulator
The Simway Hunt is the wildcard — and for many visitors, the unexpected highlight. This two-player big-screen system projects hyper-realistic shooting scenarios: driven wild boar hunts, grouse shoots, clay pigeon sessions with clays launched at 140 mph, target shooting, tin can alley, and a Wild West shootout. You use replica firearms to shoot at the screen, and the system tracks your accuracy in real time.
It’s the most accessible activity at Crackshot — anyone of any age can have a go — and the 2-player format makes it naturally competitive. You can switch scenarios as often as you like during your 30-minute session.
What to Expect
Arrival & Check-In
Report to Crackshot’s reception desk at your booked time. The venue also houses a well-stocked air gun shop, so you’ll walk past displays of rifles and accessories on the way in. After check-in, staff give a safety briefing and walk you through gun handling for the rifle range.
On the Ranges (1 hour)
You’ll spend 30 minutes on each activity. The order may vary depending on availability, but you’ll experience both: the calm focus of the 20-metre rifle range and the fast-paced, scenario-based fun of the Simway simulator. Staff supervise the rifle range and help you get started on the simulator, where you can choose and switch between scenarios freely.
After Your Session
Browse the Crackshot shop after your session — staff are happy to demonstrate different air guns and offer buying advice. The 1-hour experience fits easily into any day out in Devon, leaving plenty of time for other activities.

Practical Information
Visitor Tips
- This is the best combo for mixed groups. The rifle range appeals to those who want a genuine marksmanship challenge, while the simulator is immediately fun and accessible for everyone — including younger family members or those less confident about physical shooting.
- The Simway simulator is the most unique element at Crackshot. If you only have budget for one combo, this package gives you the simulator experience that the rifle-and-pistol combo doesn’t include.
- Try the clay pigeon scenario on the simulator — clays launch at 140 mph on screen and it takes genuinely sharp reactions to hit them. It’s the most challenging mode.
- The venue is heated and air-conditioned indoors, making it a reliable rainy-day option in Devon.
- Arrive 5–10 minutes early for check-in and the safety briefing.
- Wear comfortable clothes — any casual outfit works. No special attire needed for air gun shooting.
- If you want the pistol range too, consider the 1.5-hour full combo at just £7 more — it adds the rapid-fire BB pistol range.
- Combine with other Devon activities. Crackshot is near Dartmoor, Stover Country Park, Dartmoor Whisky Distillery, and Trago Mills for a full day out.
