Clay Shooting Experience in Warwickshire: Packages, Prices & Booking Guide
Experience Overview
Wedgnock Shooting Ground is the largest clay pigeon shooting ground in the Midlands, spread across 100 acres of Warwickshire countryside just outside Warwick. Operated by Adventure Sports (Warwickshire) Ltd — a venue with a 4.9-star rating from 349+ reviews — the site has been hosting thousands of shooters every year across an extensive English Sporting layout with high towers, a grouse butt, compact sporting, skeet, and Down The Line (DTL) disciplines.
The Clay Shooting Experience is their guided, instructor-led package designed for visitors of all abilities — from complete novices who’ve never held a shotgun to experienced shots looking for a fun session. You choose from 20, 30, or 40 shots, and a qualified instructor stays with your group throughout the entire hour, teaching technique, keeping scores, and ensuring a safe, competitive, and thoroughly entertaining session.
Unlike the indoor air gun ranges you’ll find elsewhere, this is real outdoor shotgun shooting with 12-gauge shotguns, live cartridges, and clay pigeons launched at speed across open countryside. There’s a physicality to clay shooting — the crack of the shotgun, the recoil against your shoulder, the satisfaction of watching a clay shatter mid-air — that makes it one of the most exhilarating outdoor activities in the English Midlands.

What to Expect
Arrival
Follow signs for the Outdoor Activity Centre and park in the car park by the Clubhouse. Your instructor will meet you there. The clubhouse serves as a comfortable base — you’ll sign in, meet your group, and receive your safety equipment (glasses and ear protection) before heading to the shooting grounds.
Instruction & First Shots
Your session begins with hands-on instruction: how to hold and mount the shotgun, your stance, how to load safely, and — most importantly — how to track and lead a moving target. Clay pigeons travel at speed and you need to shoot ahead of them, not at them. The instructor breaks this down into simple steps, and most beginners are breaking clays within their first few shots.
The Shoot
Clays are launched from traps across Wedgnock’s varied terrain — woodland edges, open fields, and elevated positions that mimic driven game birds. Your shots are split across different stands and challenges throughout the session, keeping things fresh and competitive. The instructor keeps score for each participant, building a competitive atmosphere that’s a huge part of the fun — especially for groups, stag dos, and team days.
After the Shoot
Final scores are announced (expect plenty of banter), and you’re welcome to return to the Clubhouse. Adventure Sports offers a range of other activities on the same 100-acre site — quad biking, axe throwing, go-karting, off-roading, and air rifle shooting — so many groups book clay shooting as part of a multi-activity day.
Location & Getting There
Follow signs for the Outdoor Activity Centre when you arrive. The 100-acre site is set in open Warwickshire countryside — a beautiful setting for an outdoor shooting experience. The ground has hard standing paths throughout and most sporting stands are covered for shelter.
Practical Information
Visitor Tips
- Wear layers and sturdy footwear. This is outdoor shotgun shooting on countryside terrain. Boots or walking shoes are ideal. Avoid sandals and heels. Most stands have hard standing and cover, but paths between them may be muddy after rain.
- Expect shoulder recoil. A 12-gauge shotgun kicks back with each shot — it’s part of the experience, but it can leave a bruise by the end of 30–40 shots. Wear a thicker top or layer around your shooting shoulder. Mention any shoulder issues to your instructor.
- Don’t worry about being bad at it. First-timers are the norm here. Instructors are consistently praised for their patience and good humour. You’ll be breaking clays sooner than you think — tracking and timing clicks after just a few shots.
- The 30-shot package is the sweet spot for groups. Twenty shots goes quickly — especially in a group of 6–8 where you’re taking turns. Thirty shots gives everyone more time on the gun and more data for the scorecard.
- Book early, especially for weekends. Adventure Sports is one of the most popular activity centres in the Midlands. Saturday sessions fill up fast, particularly during summer and stag-do season.
- Combine with other activities. Adventure Sports offers quad biking, axe throwing, air rifle shooting, go-karting, and off-roading on the same site. Many visitors book a multi-activity day — clay shooting in the morning, then something else after lunch.
- This makes a brilliant gift. Birthday surprises, Father’s Day, stag dos, team days — clay pigeon shooting at Wedgnock is one of the most popular experience gifts in the West Midlands. Viator provides instant digital tickets you can forward to the recipient.
- Visit Warwick Castle nearby. If you’re making a day of it in Warwickshire, the castle is a 10-minute drive from the shooting ground — a good morning/afternoon pairing.
